Why We Built This Site
North Carolina makes many court files public, yet the right route is not always obvious. New Hanover has a unified Clerk of Superior Court rather than separate county and district clerks. That office maintains records for Superior Court, District Court, magistrate matters, estates, and special proceedings. The public online route is the North Carolina eCourts Portal, while the clerk remains the source for permitted inspection and certified copies. The materials here connect those official routes without presenting a Portal view as an official record.
What You Will Find Here
- Docket guides: routes for criminal court dockets and civil court dockets
- Settings: how to use the court schedule and Portal hearing search for a current court date
- Lookup methods: a docket search by name, record number, citation, or other Portal search type
- Clerk-held files: how court case records and certified copies are requested from the clerk
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site. It has no connection to a North Carolina court, clerk, or agency. Its limits are clear:
- We cannot retrieve an official docket or court file for a reader.
- We cannot alter, continue, reset, or confirm a hearing setting.
- We cannot seal, amend, or remove an entry from a court record.
- We cannot provide a certified docket, order, or case document.
- We cannot offer legal advice about an individual matter.
- We cannot promise that a fee, contact, or setting has not changed since publication.
Only the Clerk of Superior Court or the court that heard a case can supply an official or certified court-file copy. The record itself must come from that government custodian.
Search Partners
Some pages carry a search box supplied by an outside provider. That provider operates its own service and prices any paid offering. A paid referral can produce revenue for this private site, but it does not change the official New Hanover route: use Portal for public state court information and the Clerk of Superior Court for the original record.
