Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number entered into a search tool is sent to the third-party service that operates that search. The provider processes the query and returns its result. New Hanover County Court Docket does not retain or log those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Messages sent by email may be retained so a response can be provided. They remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, technical information about the visit may be collected:
- Page-view timestamps
- The referring site, when one is provided
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The IP address assigned to the device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device that help show aggregate use patterns, such as popular pages and where visits end. Analytics providers help summarize that traffic. Browser controls can block cookies, although some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, securing, and improving page performance
- Diagnosing and correcting technical problems
- Understanding which resources visitors use
- Routing search requests to the applicable partner service
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Court-Record Data on File
New Hanover County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case information. It publishes general routing information for the Clerk of Superior Court, Superior Court, District Court, and the North Carolina eCourts Portal. G.S. 7A-109 addresses clerk-maintained court records and public inspection; it does not make this site a court-record custodian. The site is not a consumer reporting agency, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party records.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the partner’s own privacy policy and practices, including retention and sharing. New Hanover County Court Docket does not control those practices.
Links to Other Websites
The site links to clerk pages, court portals, statewide search systems, legal-aid resources, and third-party tools. Once you follow an external link, the other organization’s policy governs its collection and use of information.
Advertising partners may track activity across sites for targeted advertising. That activity occurs on their systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be shared with:
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the pages
- Analytics services used for traffic and performance analysis
- Search partners that process a query entered into a site tool
- Government bodies or law enforcement when a valid legal requirement applies
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet-connected system is completely secure, and no assurance can be made that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If personal information from a minor has been provided, contact us so it can be removed.
Your Data Rights
Applicable North Carolina and other privacy or consumer-protection rules may give you additional rights over your data. For court-file access, G.S. 132-6.2 addresses inspection and copy charges for public records, while G.S. 7A-109 addresses clerk-held court records. Those court-record rules do not govern this site’s visitor-data practices. At a minimum, you can:
- Opt out of certain data-processing activities
- Ask for deletion of data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Ask for a copy of information held about you
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised in the future. A revised version will appear on this page with an updated effective date.
